| Mark Bromann
has taught fire sprinkler system design courses for twelve
years, and he has 23 years cumulative experience in the field
of fire protection engineering. Following college, in addition
to teaching, his experience in this field has included fire
alarm system design, property inspections, system testing,
technical advisory assistance for attorneys, hydraulic system
design, fire pump testing, design and review of automatic
fire suppression systems.
Mark has designed every type of automatic
fire suppression system in countless applications, including
two structures (the DeZwaan Windmill and the Amoco Building)
that appear photographed in the World Book Encyclopedia.
Other design work examples include the Lynfred Winery, Cantigny
War Museum, Kentucky Air National Guard, Barclay Chicago Hotel,
the Union League Club of Chicago, and the Cervantes Convention
Center in St. Louis.
Mark is also an adjunct faculty member of
the William Rainey Harper College Fire Science & Technology
program in Palatine, Illinois. He writes a monthly column
on matters relating to fire protection for PM Engineer
magazine, and is the author of a college-level textbook entitled
The Design and Layout of Fire Sprinkler Systems. Mark
has the distinction of designing the first-ever fire sprinkler
system that utilized ESFR sprinklers. He has testified before
various committees and agencies on matters relating to fire
protection for business owners and special interest groups,
and has served on municipal building boards for matters relative
to code consulting.
Mark is NICET certified in Fire Protection
Engineering Technology at Level IV. He is a (NFPA) Certified
Fire Protection Specialist. He is an NFPA member of their
Fire Science and Technology Educators Section, and writes
test questions for NICET. He has authored numerous magazine
articles for various publications, including Fire Protection
Contractor, PM Engineer, and Professional Safety.
He has taught seminars in the Midwest and east coast on the
subjects of backflow prevention and commercial property inspections.
